GHSIMR- KANPUR, BRISTOL BUSINESS SCHOOL AGREE ON STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME
Dr. Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management & Reaserch (GHS-IMR) is one of the leading institutes in the field of MBA in Kanpur. Institute’s Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM) both full time and part time programme have been approved by AICTE, Ministry of HRD Government of India. All the activities at GHS-IMR are oriented towards creating opportunities for students to discover, explore and learn not just within the confines of curriculum but extending outside the boundaries.
The final round of the diligence process for academic exchange of MBA students of the Dr Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management and Research was held on Wednesday, 07 July 2010 in the institute campus. The UK delegation comprised Director of MBA and Executive Education, Bristol Business School, UK, Dr. Peter Simpson and International Development Coordinator, University of West England, Bristol, Sophie Turnbull while Director of the institute, Dr Prithvi Yadav and his team members represented the GHSIMR.
The process for academic exchange started last year when Dr Yadav had meeting with Dr Jane Harrington, Pro Vice Chancellor and Dr Richard, University of the West of England, Bristol and agreed for student exchange between two institutions. Prof Hugo visited GHSIMR as first round of due-diligence process and later, Prof Yadav was invited to visit UWE, Bristol for further round of discussions.
Dr Yadav informed that the two institutions had agreed upon the student exchange programme. He said the discussions and diligence process of mapping of the courses and credit transfer between the two institutions was held so that the academic exchange from second semester of the current academic year i.e jan 2011 of institute for acquiring dual degree PGDM (GHSIMR) and MSc (International Management), MSc (Management) (BBS, UK) could be carried out simultaneously.
He said under this programme, the students would also have the opportunity of getting a work visa entitling them to work in UK after the degree. He said this was a unique and an exclusive step of the GHSIMR for taking forward for providing international exposure to Indian MBA students He told that the institute had also signed a MoU with School of Management, University of Science & Technology of China (USTC), Hefei in June 2010.
Later, addressing presspersons, Dr Simpson informed that for obtaining the dual degree, students would have to qualify examination and once they qualified they could take admission for the dual degree course. He said however, the students would have to pay an additional fee of UK £ 6000 for the degree which would also entitle them for a work permit up to around four years.
He said the BBS had decided to allot 30 per cent seats out of the total for Asian students specially Indians. He said India was on the priority list of the UK and said that with the Indian students equally good in English and academics, this dual degree not only provides them an opportunity to work in UK but even if one returns to India one would be placed in the top salary bracket as compared to those who hold an indigenous degree. He said the BBS had a good track record of student placements including students from Asian and other countries.
The Director of the GHSIMR, Dr Prithvi Yadav, told that currently the trip of the two officials was to finalise the diligence process for academic exchange which includes mapping of courses and credit transfers.
He said under the programme, the faculty, of the BBS, UK would visit India and hold special workshops for the faculty who would then teach the students exactly on the British pattern. He said in UK these students could even 'earn while they learn' and manage their expenditures. He said the Institute would sign a MoU with US also soon.
